I have to be honest, I searched and searched and searched to find out how to tether my BlackBerry Bold with my MacBook – particularly when the windows version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager offers this service at the click of a button – this is very frustrating to have to work out. Rather than beating about the bush, heres how you tether your BlackBerry Bold 9000 on the 3UK using your MacBook.

Step one

First thing, attach the BlackBerry to your MacBook, Open Network Preferences and click on the small cross above the padlock to add a new connection, from there select RIM Composite Device from the “Interface” drop down box…you can name this connection whatever you like.

Once you have created and named your network you should see the following screen…

Step two

Make sure you tick the “Show Modem Status in Menu Bar” this will insert an icon in your menu bar so you can connect at leisure as you can see below…

And the you should see this screen on your BlackBerry Bold…

Bluetooth does not work as a connection method so you will have to rely on a USB cable – having said that it’s not that inconvenient and very easy to do – just watch the data charges – surf responsibly!
